Homecoming Overview

Join hundreds of Scorpion fans for the 16th annual Scorpion Homecoming & Ice Fishing Contest, brought to you by the Cuyuna Lakes Chamber of Commerce and the Sno-Serpent Snowmobile Club.

The Scorpion Range Whip and all teardrop designs are your 2020 Scorpion Homecoming feature sleds!

Scorpion Homecoming is a casual, free and fun event. Sled registration is completely complementary. No formal provisions are being made for swap or race activities. Attendees are however encouraged to support the sponsors by purchasing a raffle ticket (excellent prizes awarded - need not be present to win), patronizing the concessionaires and purchasing an official 2020 Homecoming button.

All Scorpions, as well as Scorpion-manufactured brands are welcome, including Trail-A-Sled, Sno-Ro, Sears, Sno-Craft, Brut and Massey-Ferguson.

2020 Feature SleDS

Two features will be celebrated this year! #1) Range Whip — Filling a critical spot in the Scorpion line-up, the mid-size Range Whip rolled-off the Crosby-Ironton assembly line for three model years, 1976-1978. Sporting a powerful 400cc twin-cylinder Cuyuna engine, the Range Whip was lightweight and sporty, yet large enough to support a second rider. And with options for both Para-Rail and Para-Slide, the Range Whip provided innovative suspension options for an increasingly discriminating public. The Range Whip Sting (which sported a 440cc power plant and single-rider configuration) is also welcome as a feature sled at the 2020 Homecoming. #2 ) Teardrop Designs — All of Scorpion’s iconic teardrop designs (model years 1968-1971) will also be featured in 2020. Perhaps Scorpion’s most memorable hood design, the teardrop was a staple of the company for five years running. With smooth retro-styling, the teardrop is just as cool now, as it was back then. All teardrops (regardless of hood color or model) are eligible to be featured. — Whether original or restored, if you have one, regardless of condition, bring it out and show it off! (And you just might win a trophy!)

Displayed here, a Range Whip Sting and a Scorpion Mark II. Range Whips were made in Crosby-Ironton from 1976-1978 and teardrops from 1968-1971. Got one? Bring it out and show it off!

Parking and Traffic Flow

As always, on-ice driving and parking is at your own risk (ample nearby street parking is available). For your convenience, Memorial Park does have an excellent low-angle ramp to the ice surface. See the pre-event announcements section of this page for last minute information.

Display Area

A dedicated display area will be set-up adjacent to the ice fishing area on Serpent Lake just offshore from Memorial Park. Although welcome, no formal provisions are being made for swappers (and no fees are accessed). All swappers in attendance are asked to set-up around the perimeter of the display area and not within the snowmobile display lines.

A dedicated area for feature sleds will be set-up near the display area entrance. Please place all features in the designated area.

The display area is reserved specifically for Trail-A-Sled, Scorpion and other brands directly manufactured by such. Other antique and vintage brands are welcome (but are asked to please set-up around the perimeter of the display area).

Local ride-in sleds are encouraged!

Trail Ride

Completely on-ice, this optional low-speed ride will circumnavigate Serpent Lake for approximately 8 round-trip miles. Support vehicles may not be available, so plan accordingly. Assuming safe ice conditions, the ride will proceed with or without snow. Participants below the age of 18 are subject to Minnesota's helmet law. Please have your sleds in good running condition. Vintage snowmobiles (25 years old or greater) are exempt from state license requirements while participating in this event.

Open House

Held at a world-class local collection, this event is an absolute must for Scorpion fans. Directions to the open house are available at the on-ice Homecoming booth. Complimentary snacks and refreshments will be provided.

Lodging

For lodging and dining information, see the Chamber's web site. Extensive alternative lodging is also available in the Brainerd Lakes area, generally 16 miles southwest of Crosby-Ironton on Highway 210.

Important Announcements

Final Pre-Event Announcements

In the final days preceding the event, late-breaking announcements will be posted to this area. If you plan on attending, please check this section accordingly.

Weather Information

  • Expect 32 degrees and mostly cloudy. No precipitation expected. A lovely February day is in the making!

Ice Condition Updates

  • IMPORTANT -- (Jan 31 2:05 PM) One day from Cuyuna Lakes Ice Fishing Contest & Scorpion Homecoming (2020), Serpent Lake’s ice surface is modestly slippery and covered by several inches of crusted snow. Going is difficult in places and slush exists in numerous areas. Ice thickness should be ample enough to handle foot traffic and snowmobiles. However, given this season’s unusual weather and freeze/thaw cycles, we are strongly recommending that trucks and trailers NOT park on the ice. Additionally, there is simply NOT enough plowed space on the ice to accommodate all trucks and trailers. Given this, please park along the numerous city streets in the area (see map below) and drive your snowmobile to the display. If your snowmobile does not run, starting at the Memorial Park boat ramp, there is a modest plowed road to and from the snowmobile display area. This can be used to unload snowmobiles near the display area, and then leave the ice for parking of truck and trailer. All ice fishermen and women are encouraged to park on the shore nearby and walk with their gear to the event. As always, cleats are recommended for footwear while on the ice. -- A modest area for snowmobile swappers has been plowed on the ice along the shoreline, north of the display area. Swappers are welcome to set-up there (first come, first served). Access the swapper area from the Memorial Park boat ramp. -- As always, any and all parking, riding or walking on the ice is at your own risk. All street parking is first come, first served. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
