Hello everyone, this site is the best. I am looking for some help finding a track for my 68 300 trail a sled. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Adam     Breezy Point, Mn     2009-02-11
I have successfully restored a 1973 Stingerette completely from start to finish in about 3 and a half weeks and finishing February 6th- the day before this year''s homecoming. Long story short, this project and this snowmobile will live on as an landmark and milestone in the local and national music scenes. It is the first of hopefully many Scorpion restorations that will, in the long run, raise money for music education.

Todd Danelski     Sturgeon Lake     2009-02-09
Couldn''t make it to the homecoming this year as we were representing Scorpion in the One Lunger 100 race. My (HD class) 1971 MarkII ran 60 hard miles and blew her track off. My brothers (HR class) 1971 Stinger ran a hard 100 miles into the winners circle!!! We will proudly be representing Scorpion at next years race too. Randy... save Team Scorpion a few buttons from this years homecoming please.

It appears that I can''t edit my previous entry so I will do it this way. With te flood of memories this web site brought to me I was thinking of all the people I knew and I mis-spoke when I said that I started working for Great Lakes Scorpion, it was Snowmobile Sales Inc. of Marshfield Wi. sorry about that.

shawn.mcleod     Edmonton, Alberta, Canada     2009-01-30
I am considering purchasing a 1976 Massy 340 Whirlwind and would like to know if I can find parts if I am in need of them should something break down. You can contact me by return e-mail or I can be contacted by phone at 780-913-4490. Thank you for your assistance.

Duane Quam     Adams Wisconsin     2009-01-29
I was a partner in a Scorpion Dealership in 1967,68 and 69 in Lodi Wisconsin. In 1970 I went to work for Great Lakes Scorpion the distributor for Wisconsin, the UP and Northern Illinois. I was the Rep for Southern Wisconsin until the spring of 1974. In April of 1974 I moved to Hayward Wisconsin and became the Rep for Northern Wisconsin and the UP. Scorpion purchased most of the Independent Distributors in 1975 and was hired by Scorpion Inc. in 1975. In 1977 I was transfered to Barrie Ont. to head up Scorpion''s Eastern Canada operations. In late 1979 I returned to Crosby to take over as manager of the Parts Garmets and Accesories divison and was there until the end of Scorpion, in the spring of 1980. Of all the changes that Scorpion went through, the best was when Harvey Paulson took over. He was a true professional in every way and was the best thing that happened to not only Scorpion. but to the snowmobile industry in general. If anyone is looking for part numbers I have all the manuals from 1968 on and would be glad to help. Long live the memories of Scorpion and all they did to promote snowmobiling.

Joel Crawford     Brewer, ME     2009-01-28
I''m getting a 1971 440 super stinger tomorrow from my 50 year old friend how kept it from his childhood. It was the fastest sled on brewer lake in 1971 and 1972 at 76 MPH! Its been sitting for 25 years and its dieing and so am I to get it back on brewer lake.

steve wibe     waubun     2009-01-27
Stinger 290 et was this a good sled? what does the et stand for?

Greg Davidson     Winsted, Mn.     2009-01-25
What a great site. I have been a member of both ASCOA and VSCA for many years and love reading about the history. I just spent most of my Sunday afternoon reading everything on this site and watching the videos. Good job. I wanted to prep myself for the homecoming next month. I can hardly wait.

Paul Kunst     Forsyth, MT     2009-01-24
I have 4 superstingers. Got all of them in rough shape. Cleaning them up.

Scott Macrae     Grande Prairie, Alberta     2009-01-23
My first sled was a Stinger 290, then graduated up to a 1972 400, ran them both till my Dad and bro ran out of parts. They sold scorps till 75-76. An all white 440 superstinger was the last one my bro raced in the maritimes back in the day, he did well with it. If I could find a couple of Bull whips for sale i would snap them up in a heart beat, my bro would kill to ride a scorp newer than 1976, awsome site, certainly brought the old scorp fever back!

Steve Jaros     Wyoming, Mn     2009-01-22
I have in my stable, a 1972 stinger II 400, 2 White hood 1973 SuperStinger 440''s, a wedge hood 1971 Stinger 340, a 1973 Stnger 290 ET ( bought in 1975 when I was 14yo.), and a 1975 Super Stinger 440 Blue phase. I''m looking for original or after market hood decal''s for the Blue 1975 SuperStinger, or any links to help find any Scorpion decals. My Uncle used to sell Scorpion''s out of Willow River,mn in the late 60''s to mid-70''s Jaros Scorpion Sales and Service, until he was killed in a sledding accident in 1975. I sure had a blast hanging around the shop and riding brand new sled''s. Any info. on decals would be greatly appreciated. Happy Trail''s, Steve

mike     little falls     2009-01-22

Steve Jaros     Linwood,Mn     2009-01-22
My Uncle owned Jaros Scorpion Sales and Service late 60s-mid 70s. We lived next door to the shop, so I got to ride new Scorpions all the time and hang out at the shop when I was a teen, good times. To date I own a 1971 Stinger 340, 1972 StingerII 400, 2 1973 White hood Super Stinger 440s, 1973 Super Stingerette 340, 1973 Stinger 290 ET since 1975, and 1975 Super Stinger 440 (Blue phase)

Just bought a 76 Range Whip (398 - with Walbro Float carb) Installed new carb kit - new gas line, new primer, has spark, but can''t get it to suck gas from the from the tank line - Checked tank line - OK. Any ideas? (fuel line on top of the carb goes to the bottom of the engine case --correct?) Thanks for any ideas or help.

Many good memories with a Scorpion.

Ted Kamatchus     Marshalltown, Iowa     2008-12-30
Just wanted to compliment you on your great site. My brother, Gary Kamatchus was a longtime Scorpion Sales and Service center in New Ulm, Minn. As a teen growing up, I always had a Mark,Stinger or Whip Scorpion sled to enjoy. At that time we lived on Jefferson Lake near Cleveland, Minn. Best of luck and I would love to have Trail-a-Sled come back.

Bob Wandel     Hubertus, Wisconsin     2008-12-27

My father was Engineering Services & Administration Manager for Scorpion, where he worked from 1970-80. Having spent my Jr-Sr High school years living in Crosby, in the hay days of Scorpion, this site brings back memories like a good song from your past. I haven''t kept in touch with the Crosby crew, but I plan on being at the ''09'' Homecoming. I sold off my collection in 2000, but plan on starting again this year! Truly the best years of my life were spent on a Scorpion snowmobile. Thank you Harrison family and all those responsible for this site. See you in Feb! Regards Troy Glomski Mpls,Mn

I''ve been riding since I was 13 years old. The first sled my parents ever bought was a 1973 340 Stinger II. I was so excited that I washed and waxed it once a week. I heard that Scorpion was thinking about coming back a few years ago. What happened? I now ride a ZR900 Cat.

I own 3 Scorpion Snowmobiles. The first one was purchased back in 1969 by my oldest brother and my dad. I will never forget the anticipation our family had the day they went to town to pick it up from our local dealer, Beazer Fuel. It is a Mark III 300 and if I remember correctly, cost about $1100.00 new. The next machine is a 1970 stinger with the red metal flake hood that was bought used by another one of my brothers. He later sold it to me for $200.00. The third machine is a 1971 340 Super Stinger racing machine, red metal flake wedge hood design, with open vents to provide cooling for the CCW free air engine and tuned pipe. It was originally owned by a local racer and we bought it from him back in the early seventies for $300.00 All three of these machines run today. Each of my children have grown up riding these machines and my son and I continue to have a blast on them. Just last month we had a lot of snow here and school was called off. My son spent the afternoon on the 1970 Stinger crusing around the neighborhood giving his friends rides and getting the thumbs up from all kinds of people. Thanks for bringing back a little bit of history and great memories with this web site. And a special thanks to all the people involved in building the kind of quality snowmobiles that have lasted through three generations in our family. Thanks so much!

I have recently acquired a 1973 Scorpion Stinger 440 WT. The sled runs and sounds decent. I do need some help in locating a windshield, the center console cover along with a headlight assembly and tail light assembly. The sled came with a bunch of extra parts as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I also have had a gentleman tell me about 2 1975 Bruts that he thinks are for sale. One is a 340 2 cylinder and the second is a 440 3 cylinder. Just wanted some information on my sled and the 2 Bruts. After being away from vintage sleds it''s been great to be back. Lastly, what''s the best way to contact other Scorpion owners regarding any questions or parts needs? Thanks for the space. Nick

I had a older sting I believe with the 440 Cuyuna blew the pistons, scored the walls had it professionally bored 40 over but wiseco pistons in it drove it 1 mile down the road and blew the right piston, fixed it same thing happened again was wondering if anybody knows why these motors blew the right side all the time. I heard if you change carb it stops but is this true.

This last weekend at the Homecoming was very cool. I got a chance to see lots of different Scorpion sleds, meet Dick and family plus see his collection of Scorpion history. Keep it up. I will be there next year again especially since my 1975 340 blue metal flake Whip will be the featured sled along with the Chuck Connors (The Rifleman) theme for next year. What history! Para-rail and Rockwell engines; a sled way ahead of its time. Cheers and see all ya''lls next year!

FOR SALE. Both machines for $800. 1967 Sears Snowcruiser made by Scorpion & a 1968 Scorpion. The Sears Snowcruiser is in nice condition for its age. This is a rare machine made by Scorpion and sold by Sears. The JLO engine turns over with great compression and runs while spraying gas into carb. It will need new gas lines, fresh gas, etc.. The hood looks nice. The frame is solid. The track looks real good for its age. The seat is nice and soft. The windshield is brand new. The front chrome bumper has a slight bend. The 1968 Scorpion is in rough condition. The JLO engine does turn over. The frame is totally rusted out. The seat is fairly nice and still could be used. The hood does have a crack in it. The track could possibly be used yet. The front chrome bumper is nice. I can store these snowmobiles inside my building for you to pick up whenever as long as paid for in full. I do accept paypal. Call 218-357-0927. Thanks!

I need to see if the part number for the gas tank, belly pan, and gas tank cover/console have the same part number so I can know what other sleds have the same parts. If you could scan the parts books and send the pictures to me at jag3000fan@yahoo.com that would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Ryan

Bryan     Illinois     2007-12-10
Hi I just got an 80 Scorpion whip 440 that runs for about 15 -20 min. With low power then it dies. After the engine dies it will not restart for about an hour or more. When the unit dies I still have spark and it will pop over a few times but just wont start. I tried changing plugs and it did not help. I tried to lean it out and still is not any better. Also drained the fuel and made sure that I had a fresh 50:1 mix of fuel still not any better. When the unit is running it seems to run a little rich and it smokes a bit more then I think it should. When the engine dies out I also tried to remove the plugs and pull a few times incase it was flooded but after pulling and I put in the new plugs it is not any better. Also what is the best spark plug to use with this engine and is 1 1/4 turns out on the needle ok as a starting point for the carb. Any ideas would be a big help. Because today is the start of the season and we got snow.

I have a 1979 Scorpion Sting that needs a gas tank. I found a gas tank on ebay that fits a 1975 whip. The seller said that he had a gas tank for a 1980 whip that looked exactly like it. I found a picture of a 1980 whip and the gas tank cover looks the same as the one on my Sting. Will the gas tank for the whip fit my Sting?
