I''ve been riding since I was 13 years old. The first sled my parents ever bought was a 1973 340 Stinger II. I was so excited that I washed and waxed it once a week. I heard that Scorpion was thinking about coming back a few years ago. What happened? I now ride a ZR900 Cat.

Shawn     Alma, MI     2008-04-12

I own 3 Scorpion Snowmobiles. The first one was purchased back in 1969 by my oldest brother and my dad. I will never forget the anticipation our family had the day they went to town to pick it up from our local dealer, Beazer Fuel. It is a Mark III 300 and if I remember correctly, cost about $1100.00 new. The next machine is a 1970 stinger with the red metal flake hood that was bought used by another one of my brothers. He later sold it to me for $200.00. The third machine is a 1971 340 Super Stinger racing machine, red metal flake wedge hood design, with open vents to provide cooling for the CCW free air engine and tuned pipe. It was originally owned by a local racer and we bought it from him back in the early seventies for $300.00 All three of these machines run today. Each of my children have grown up riding these machines and my son and I continue to have a blast on them. Just last month we had a lot of snow here and school was called off. My son spent the afternoon on the 1970 Stinger crusing around the neighborhood giving his friends rides and getting the thumbs up from all kinds of people. Thanks for bringing back a little bit of history and great memories with this web site. And a special thanks to all the people involved in building the kind of quality snowmobiles that have lasted through three generations in our family. Thanks so much!

I have recently acquired a 1973 Scorpion Stinger 440 WT. The sled runs and sounds decent. I do need some help in locating a windshield, the center console cover along with a headlight assembly and tail light assembly. The sled came with a bunch of extra parts as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I also have had a gentleman tell me about 2 1975 Bruts that he thinks are for sale. One is a 340 2 cylinder and the second is a 440 3 cylinder. Just wanted some information on my sled and the 2 Bruts. After being away from vintage sleds it''s been great to be back. Lastly, what''s the best way to contact other Scorpion owners regarding any questions or parts needs? Thanks for the space. Nick

I had a older sting I believe with the 440 Cuyuna blew the pistons, scored the walls had it professionally bored 40 over but wiseco pistons in it drove it 1 mile down the road and blew the right piston, fixed it same thing happened again was wondering if anybody knows why these motors blew the right side all the time. I heard if you change carb it stops but is this true.

Earl Jarosh     Golden Valley, MN     2008-02-05
This last weekend at the Homecoming was very cool. I got a chance to see lots of different Scorpion sleds, meet Dick and family plus see his collection of Scorpion history. Keep it up. I will be there next year again especially since my 1975 340 blue metal flake Whip will be the featured sled along with the Chuck Connors (The Rifleman) theme for next year. What history! Para-rail and Rockwell engines; a sled way ahead of its time. Cheers and see all ya''lls next year!

FOR SALE. Both machines for $800. 1967 Sears Snowcruiser made by Scorpion & a 1968 Scorpion. The Sears Snowcruiser is in nice condition for its age. This is a rare machine made by Scorpion and sold by Sears. The JLO engine turns over with great compression and runs while spraying gas into carb. It will need new gas lines, fresh gas, etc.. The hood looks nice. The frame is solid. The track looks real good for its age. The seat is nice and soft. The windshield is brand new. The front chrome bumper has a slight bend. The 1968 Scorpion is in rough condition. The JLO engine does turn over. The frame is totally rusted out. The seat is fairly nice and still could be used. The hood does have a crack in it. The track could possibly be used yet. The front chrome bumper is nice. I can store these snowmobiles inside my building for you to pick up whenever as long as paid for in full. I do accept paypal. Call 218-357-0927. Thanks!

I have a 1979 Scorpion sting. I am looking for a parts book for it and some other Scorpion models like the 75-80 whip and the 77-80 Sting. I need to see if the part number for the gas tank, belly pan, and gas tank cover/console have the same part number so I can know what other sleds have the same parts. If you could scan the parts books and send the pictures to me at jag3000fan@yahoo.com that would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Ryan

Bryan     Illinois     2007-12-10
Hi I just got an 80 Scorpion whip 440 that runs for about 15 -20 min. With low power then it dies. After the engine dies it will not restart for about an hour or more. When the unit dies I still have spark and it will pop over a few times but just wont start. I tried changing plugs and it did not help. I tried to lean it out and still is not any better. Also drained the fuel and made sure that I had a fresh 50:1 mix of fuel still not any better. When the unit is running it seems to run a little rich and it smokes a bit more then I think it should. When the engine dies out I also tried to remove the plugs and pull a few times incase it was flooded but after pulling and I put in the new plugs it is not any better. Also what is the best spark plug to use with this engine and is 1 1/4 turns out on the needle ok as a starting point for the carb. Any ideas would be a big help. Because today is the start of the season and we got snow.

I have a 1979 Scorpion Sting that needs a gas tank. I found a gas tank on ebay that fits a 1975 whip. The seller said that he had a gas tank for a 1980 whip that looked exactly like it. I found a picture of a 1980 whip and the gas tank cover looks the same as the one on my Sting. Will the gas tank for the whip fit my Sting?

We aquired a 71 Spyder a few years back. A guy was going to junk it. It had no motor in it and the tires were shot. So my husband took on the project of getting it running again. Now to my surprise I find out there were only 25 of these ever made and we have one of them. Does anyone else out there have one? My email is lstrine@hotmail.com

I have a 79 cuyuna 440 engine. I need to pull the cylinders. There are now visible bolts. The head bolts do not go all the way through. Can anyone tell me how these cylinder come off?

Rodney Treichler     Pennsylvania     2007-02-17
We have 2 1979 Scorpion Sting 400s and a 1976 Scorpion Whip-Sting 440. All have Cuyuna engines and run great. If any of you need parts, the place to go is www.winterhavenllc.com talk to Ernie Sr. for engine problems. I have used them for parts and service help for many years. They are located in Plymouth, CT and were the biggest Scorpion dealer in the Northeast. Hopefully this will help everyone.

Roland Swanson     Springfield, IL     2007-02-16
I have a 1979 scorpion with a 440 Cuyuna engine. The guy I bought it from replaced one or both pistons. I ran it maybe 4 hours. Now I have no compression at the spark plug of the head near the clutch. The head gasket looks ok the piston moves up and down normal but is not creating any pressure. About 30 psi. The other cylinder is about 90. What should I do?

Steven Durfee     Benton Harbor, MI     2007-02-12
I have a 400 cuyuna and a 440 JLO and a 300 JLO twin all need 1 piston or a replacement engine. Got any?

I am trying to learn about the Scorpion Quad trac, can anyone tell me about them. Number produced, reliability, parts availability, general comments? Thank you

Greg Kooienga     Hudsonville, MI     2007-02-07
I have a 1978 Scorpion Whip 440 TKX and recently replaced a burnt piston on the fan side. This past weekend I had the sled out and was running about 7000rpm 30 mph and the engine started spuging and jumping so I shut it off and pulled the plugs and every thing looked ok so i started it back up and it only would run on one cylinder so I towed it back home and I pulled the head and the piston again is starting to decay on the top in the middle so if you know why or how I can prevent this. Please let me know.

Alexa     Maple Grove MN     2007-02-04

This is a great site. Our first sled was 66 Scorpion that my dad brought home. From there it was a new Scorpion every year until they went out of business. I even worked for one of the local Scorpion dealers. This site brings back some great memories, when snowmobiling WAS snowmobiling.

When I was a kid growing up in Faribault, MN I had a paper route. One of my stops was at Reichert Sales and Service, a Scorpion dealer. I remember seeing all those Whips, Stingers, and Stingerettes. I also recall him having a Columbia, Brut, and Chaparelle. The coolest sled he ever had was the 1981 Sidewinder. I dreamt of owning one. Well, 25 years later I have just acquired a fully restored 1981 Sidewinder. It will be delivered to me soon. I can''''t wait!!! Cool site!!!

Mark Falso     Liverpool, NY     2006-11-22
This site is fanastic! I love it! Good to remember what Scorpions were like. I was a kid so I did not own any of them when Scorpion was in business. We had other brands. Would love to own 81 Sidewinder or the 81 TK/TKX since they still look fresh and new in the 21st century! Oh well! In fact, I still design Scorpion snowmobiles as if it was still in business. You guys should see my designs!! :)

David Sunnarborg     Esko, MN     2006-11-21
I have aquired a 1963 Trail a Sled from my neighbors. They were cleaning out their barn and they came across it and they had no use for it anymore so they gave it to me. Ever since I was a child I always wanted to ride in it and now it is mine.

Josh Bahr     Gresham, WI     2006-10-17
Three years ago I picked up a 1971 Stinger II with a 292 CCW. The sled sat in a farmer''s barn for 20 some years because it didn''t run. When I found the sled it didn''t have a windshield or seat, I have since replaced the windshield and am in the process of having a seat upholstered. The only mechanical repair that I made to the snowmobile was put a new rewind on it. The sled now runs like brand new. I am interested in finding an original seat and red metal flake hood. If anyone knows of the whereabouts of either please send me an email, Thanks

Robert Sparhawk     Stevens Point, WI     2006-10-16
Looking forward to the new Hall of Fame in Eagle River WI. I hope they have a lot of Scorpion Sno Pro stuff from 1978 to 1981. I would like to see the race sleds once again. The last time I sat on one I was 10 years old at a Scorpion show in Florida of all places. I still have the pic with Brad, Steve and myself sitting on the sled. Hope the Hall of Fame in Eagle River is awesome.
