I have a 1981 Scorpion Sidewinder. I found it in a warehouse in Phoenix. There were 2, I wish I bought the other one also. Currently there are 1150 miles on the sled. Four were sold in Arizona at a dealership in Mormon Lake.

Scott     Foreston, MN     2005-12-25
We got to ride the 71 Super Stinger we bought this fall, The big triple Hirth is so smooth, loud and proud, and what a great running machine. We hope to bring it to Crosby this winter, and take it on the ride around the lake, If we can,t ride it why own it!

Douglas Bursch     Rockford     2005-12-25
I had a 1972 Superstinger 440 when I was a kid. It had a white hood and a black seat. All the other ones I saw had the red metal flake hood and seat. I loved that sled.

FOZ     Houghton Lake, MI     2005-12-21

Gary Docken     Baltic ,South Dakota     2005-12-21
Just searching the Internet this PM. We used to have a 1969 Scorpion Mark II. I wished it would have had a speedometer as I lived on that sled for the next 9 years. This site brought back a lot of memories. I live in Florida now but miss snowmobiling. Thanks for the memories. Gary Docken

Phillip Stark     Elk Grove, CA     2005-12-19
As a young boy growing up in Crosby - Scorpion was it. I have fond memories of racing across Serpent Lake, oblivious to the dangers of bumps and ruts. Thanks for rekindling the memories.

My name is Steve Knapp. My grandpa passed away 12 years ago.. before he died he had taught me how to ride a sled. Of course it was a 1980 440 scorpion tk. I am now 28 and the sled was handed down to me....the sled needs some work, but it is in almost mint shape....i would like to seriously sell it to anyone for a reasonable price.

Jeff Brideau     Newmarket, NH     2005-10-31

Mike Dutko     Sussex, NJ     2005-09-11
Recently got hold of a ''76 or ''77 sting with 620 origional miles on it. It''s been sitting for about 20 years, the motor was stuck and the gas tank full of crud, have resolved these problems, but am not sure of the fuel line routes, it has a walbro wf carb on it, anyone who has any idea which lines go where would surely be of help. Also have a Stinger II I think a ''71 that starts sometimes but won''t run at low idle thanks, this is a cool site!

Seth Merriam     Naples, Maine     2005-09-08
I just bought my first snowmobile. It''s a Scorpion 1980 TK Whip. It was stored inside so it looks great and it starts on the first pull. Quite a few people have come over to stare at it. They all think back to when it was the fastest sled in it''s day.

Jake Hollenebeck     Fort jackson, NY     2005-09-08
First off Scorpion is #1, I am a huge restorer and Iam currentley building a modified 73 Stinger that was wrecked and could not be restored. Any one who has eny old patches, decals, or racing photos please let me see them.

Bill Cameron     Flint , Michigan     2005-08-25
The history of trail a sled is absolutely wonderful! Whoever wrote it should recieve a big hand ... GREAT JOB. Out of all of the history stories I have read about the earlier snowmobile manufacturers this is the best I have ever read with many details. I am very impressed.

Steve Senger     Baraboo, WI     2005-08-21
My first sled was a 67 Mark II at the age of 5. Rode it into the ground and loved every minute spent on it. Since then, [1970] I have owned 32 machines and am very active in the sport; even made my living working on sleds for several years. And to think it all started with a little SCORPION...

Maurice (Moe) Matte     Vermont     2005-08-17
Interesting history. I learned about Scorpion when a friend gave us an all original moped made in ''78. Still running and in near mint condition.

SCOTT FRANDRUP     MERKEL, TEXAS     2005-08-16
BRINGS BACK MEM ... RACED 1976/1977. ORG FROM INVER GROVE HTS MN. MY WIFE IS FROM TEXAS AND DOSNT UNDERSTAND! I HAD A 75 340 WHIP FOR A PULL SLED AND TAUGHT MY KIDS TO RIDE ON IT, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Mark Vandeveer     Erie, PA     2005-08-11
Really enjoyed the history of these sleds. I bught a 76 Range Whip new followed by an 80 Whip 440. This year, unable to find a track replacement I was hauling it to an old dealer for parts when I saw he had an old 79 TK in very good condition, I swapped him my Whip and $400, took the TK home and cleaned it up. It runs fine, has a very good track and I''m sure it will keep my kids happy for another 5-10 years. Those sleds really were built to last.

Daniel Pexton     Rome NY     2005-07-16
I like the site #1, I''ve owned my Scorpion since 1981 and in March of 05 I started complete overhaul of my 75 Whip. Wish I could have brought it to the parade seeing I have the Red White and Blue theme. It can be viewed at vintage scorpion photos 75 Whip.

Steve Tharp     St frarcis, MN     2005-05-22
Great site it brings back alot of great memories. Dad bought a 68 Mark II 400 new that he still has in almost mint original condition and I have 2 Whips, 75-400 76-440. I also have alot of Scorpion advertisements, signs, and memorabilia. I hope to find time and more info to get more involved with these great old sleds and the people who still love them.

Kevin     Cottage Grove, MN     2005-05-15
I own a 1973 Scorpion Stinger 440 WT. I''''ve had it for about 4 years now and I have never been able to find much about the wide track machines. Also on the hood it doesn''''''''t say Super Stinger like all of the others that I have seen, it only says Stinger 440 WT. I did find some specs on the Internet and they said the motor that should be in a 73 shouldn''''t be a Rockwell, but that is what is in mine.

Glen     Moorhead, Mn     2005-04-29
Would love a picture of the 1977 Bull Whip.

Jim Hopkins     Windsor Ont. Canada     2005-04-24
Very nice site and I''ll be back ... owner of two Mark II sleds.

Chris Tacy     Oakfield, NY     2005-04-24
I have a 73 Superstinger 440. Redone the engine. Runs great. Its the first sled I ever fell off of. My grandfathers brother was driving, I was only six years old.

Bought an abandoned 1971 Stinger for $50 a few years ago and has run great ever since!! Cool site!

Drew     Tottenham, Ontario     2005-03-12
Just picked up a 1979 Whip 340 today. The guy just gave me the sled. It looks great. It has no spark to one cylinder. The sled has about 2000 miles on it.

Mike Fabish     Virginia, MN     2005-03-08
My dad bought one of your aluminum air sleds in 1961 or 1962.

Brent Abrahamson     Esko, Mn     2005-03-07
I heard about this site from a friend of mine, boy is it great. I have a 1968 300 Trail A Sled that I bought from my grandpa about 15 years ago. My dad had a 440 super stinger(not sure of the year). It as white metallic(don''''t know if there was too many of them). I hope to get my 18 h.p. running again and make it to the next Scorpion rally.

John Garafola     Anoka, MN     2005-03-05
What a blast to the past the Homecoming was. Growing up in Crosby, snowmobiles everywhere, parts so easy to get.... with the Internet and the wealth of dedicated suppliers, its almost as easy to get parts today. I hope I''m not alone in feeling that we need to make the Hmecoming an annual event. Pease post any and all needs for volunteer assistance to make that a reality for us hard-core Scorpion junkies. i own a ''71 stinger (440 Sachs) since it was brand-new, purchased at Spalj Chevrolet, and a ''75 Whip 400, second-owner with 2300 miles.

Steve Simpson     Craig CO.     2005-02-27
First machine my father bought was a 1967 Mark III. What a tank! But it was rugged! From then on that was all our family would ride. Ended up years later and many Scorpions with matching Range Whips. Still have many of them sitting around. Love this site!!

Russ Horbul     Andover, MN     2005-02-25
I have a Trail A Sled that I believe is a 1962 and was in runing order when I put it away many years ago.

Gene Daoust     Orlando Florida     2005-02-24
Hello all ... Warren Daoust, President of Scorpion in the 70''s was my father. Just wanted to say how great it was to find this site. It brought back a flood of memories.

Patrick Miter     Ballston Spa N.Y.     2005-02-23
I look forward to receiving the newsletter from the club. My first sled was a 71 Stingerette 290. I am in the process of trying to find it and restore it.

Brian Bates     Hortonville, WI     2005-02-17
Grew up on a 69 and 70 scorpion. The 69 was a Stinger I think and the 70 a Stinger III? Still have the old helmets, one red metallic and the other purple with the Scorpion stickers on the sides. Dad, still has the old Sachs motors.

Bruce Alexander     Southern CA     2005-02-16
I just got a 1969 Scorpion that has been sitting inside for 25 years. The motor is stuck but it did not get wet has slight surface rust torn seat I do not think it has many miles on it.

Tony Werdein     Buffalo / Rochester , NY     2005-02-08
Growing up in Buffalo my next door neighbor had a Brut 440 sled, when he hit the throttle there was an unforgetable growl and snow flying as he was launched down the path - that sled flew! Thank you for the great history lesson - so many things came to light after reading your fine pages of the history of Scorpion snowmobiles.

Sandra R.     Winnipeg, Canada     2005-02-07
Was out at the Scorpion Rally this past weekend, and bought my first sled. A ''73 Super Stinger 290, and can''t wait to get it up to speed and go for a run. They certainly are a beautiful piece of machinery, and it''s nice to see a site dedicated to them.

Scott Smith     Layton, Utah soon to be in Spokane Washi     2004-08-18
Great site! My father, Harmon J.Smith worked for a Scorpion dealership as a salesman in Coured''''lane Idaho back in 1969 or so. He used to take me to the snowmobile races (including grass drags) when I was a kid (about 7-8 years old at the time). I have many fond memories of those times. He is retired now but talks about sleds all the time (he''''''''s a racing nut all the way). I have always kept my eye open for a really nice example of the day (like a mint 69 Scorpion Stinger) to give him as a gift. He always like the black with red stripe color combo.

Robert Tower     Hartford, WI     2004-08-13

Dan De Zorzi     Maidstone, Ontario Canada     2004-05-02
The first sowmobile dealership I was ever in was a Scorpion dealer. The last model of the TK was my favorite. Thanks for the great site!

Marc Sebright     Grand Rapids, Michigan     2004-04-25
Having been collecting Scorpions for over ten years, I have always considered them to be the best snowmobile ever built. I''ve had to condense my collection a bit over time, but I know one thing for sure, my ''71 Super Stinger 440 CCW F/A racer will never go as long as I''m still suckin'' air!

James Swing     Harris, MN 55032     2004-04-20

What a flood of memories,I LOVE YOUR WEB SITE.

Don Amber     Churubusco, IN     2004-03-05
Hello, this morning I opened my morning paper, the Fort Wayne (Indiana) Journal-Gazette and found an article about the Harrisons. What a flood of memories. I owned a Chevrolet dealership in my town and also a Scorpion dealership. I also knew that in my attic I still had a Scorpion brochure from 1971. It''''s in pristine condition. In 1972 I was the Indiana Snowmobile Associations point champion in stock class on a Yellow Scorp. I did change to Polaris because of sponsorship to race in the 1973 and 1974 Winnipeg-St Paul I 500. In 1975 I raced a branch (not factory) John Deere 340/S in the I-500.

Glenn Taylor Jr     Litchfield, NH     2004-03-05

Marty C.     North Bay, ON     2004-03-01
7 years ago, I bought a 77 Chinook that sat in a field for 3 years. New fuel line and a fresh tank of gas and it started on the 2nd pull. I ran, and still run that sled anywhere I want. It is eternal. It will be handed down to my kids someday.

Dave Webb     Prince George B.C. CANADA     2004-02-25
Great site! I have 2 sidewinders, one running great and one in pieces about 90% all there.

Bill Adams     Sauk Rapids, MN     2004-02-25
I spent the early part of my life in the Crosby (Deerwood) area. During those years, I dont think I even realized that there were other sled manufactures. EVERYONE HAD SCORPIONS, and some of us always will. Thanks for the memories, Bill Adams

Dave Greenly     Colorado Springs CO     2004-02-23
My brother in law recently gave me 2 Scorpion TKs (440s). They were sitting on the property for a very long time and I cleaned out the carbs completely. They are a blast! This is a great site.

Jason Gilbert     WA     2004-02-18
I was wondering if any one had picters of a Bull Whip, Odd Job. I never seen one in real life and the photos on the site don''t show much. Any info would be great! I''ve been riding and now restoring Scorpions for 24 yrs. There would be a huge void in my life without them! Thanks Jason

Shawn Earl Marthaler     Andover, MN     2004-02-16

Mark Groehler     Wayzata, MN     2004-02-13
My father was a Scorpion dealer in Mankato, MN from 1967-1973. After building his own snowmobile in our basement in 1965 he decided to sell Scorpion sleds and they became the most popular sled in town. He tried para-sailing with the Scorpion team and had hired a guy for racing. We have lots of great memories, memorbilia, and a ''72 Stinger 400 that still runs great. Those were the good old days and my family still holds Scorpion close to our hearts. Thanks.

Todd Danelski     Moose Lake, MN     2004-02-11
If you want to see the largest and most diverse collection of old scorpions come to Moose Lake, MN on Feb. 15th. The Moose Lake Chamber of Commerce is having a vintage sled run/chili feed. We will be riding from Moose Lake to Denham and back, about 20 miles. Trails are in great shape. It will be a blast (from the past).

Linda Meyer     Minneapolis     2004-02-10
I found this website after reading some in the Courier. I grew up a few doors down from the Harrison''s. I went to school with their kids. I rode those TrailASleds and Scorpions until 1972 when I graduated from school. We used to ride up and down the alley with Steve Harrison, Dick''''s son in the winter for hours on end. I remember there were no lights and the gas tank was plastic. Then in the later years they even had a bright pink kind of color as that''s what my dad, Heinie Meyer bought when he worked on the assembly line with them after retiring from the underground mines. Last month I found my Scorpion up to the elbow mittens with the patch on them and the sled Scorpion design. Great website! Linda Meyer

Dan Lingwall     Outing, Minnesota     2004-02-09
I worked for Scorpion for 1969 until 1976.

Tom Peterson     Star Prairie, WI     2004-02-08
My dad was a dealer for many years. we still have many sleds, parts and still repair Scorpions. The worst mistake I made was being caught at a week moment and selling 4 of the nicest Scorps left to Ed Webb.

Greg     Horace, ND     2004-02-08
I have a 1967 scorpion that my son just rode in the Lake Park MN old timmers run on sat 2/7/04 it sure is fun riding the old sled and has given us alot of enjoyment.

Tim     GR. Michigan     2004-02-07
I grew up on a 68 Mark III. Wow, did that thing take me everywhere. I''ve recently bought a 69 Mark II and am looking for another old Scorpion. Anything before 72. Thanks

TIMOTHY D. OGREN     SAINT PAUL MINNESOTA     2004-02-06
Hello: I grew up riding one of your sleds. Do you sell any Scorpion memorbelia on this site? Thanks

David Chatele     Albertville, MN     2004-02-05
My dads brother sold his Scorpion snowmoble to us, this was in 1973 or 1974. It had a single cylinder engine, not sure what size. It didn''t go very fast but I sure had a blast with my friends on it. I thank my dad for getting it for me.

Jack Kangley     Hampton, Iowa     2004-02-04
Former Scorpion dealer in 1969 & 1970 in Nevada, Iowa Still own a 1969 or 1970 Scorpion Stinger with about 150 miles on it. Will be doing a restore on it next year. Good web site.

Rory Nichols     austin, MN     2004-02-04
I still ride my TK440 - I bought it new in 1980. I LOVE IT! (I need a new track though.)

Marlys G. Olson     Palisade, MN.     2004-02-03
Our first snowmobile was a Scorpion. I won it! The Super Valu that I shopped at had a Pot O Gold contest. When the clerk handed me the card it said store manager pull all tabs, well, he wasn''''t there so I had to come back later. When he pulled the tabs it said I had won 3rd prize and it was a Scorpion Snowmobile! My husband had just inquired about a loan at his Credit Union so we could purchase a snowmobile! Talk about luck and timing. This was back in 1969 so we no longer have the Scorpion but it sure gave us a good start to the sport of snowmobiling.

Becky     Becker, Minnesota     2004-02-02
Great site. I just wanted to say thanks for posted pictures of my grandfather(Virgil Lueck). They were fun to look at. our family has great snowmobile memories thanks to Scorpion and my grandpa!

Wes Normandin     Prineville OR     2004-01-31
Hey, you guys, I hadn''t thought about my Scopions for years. Then last fall as I was making my daily truck run from Prineville, OR to Weed CA I saw 2 old Stingers for sale on a trailer at LaPine OR. It brought back memories from northern Minnesota, when I lived in Cohasset MN.

Dan Berganini     Fridley     2004-01-30
I grew up with my Dad''s red Stinger, which we still have at our cabin. What a great snowmobile! I loved seeing the old pics on your site.

Janice     Champlin, MN     2004-01-30
In the early 70s I worked as a spray painter for Douglas Corp. in south Minneapolis. One of the jobs I loved was painting the red and black scorpion plastic plate that went on the new sleds. You had to have a steady hand and a good eye, there were just a couple of us girls that could do the job. My father was a Cat person and owned several sleds my husband loved SkiDoos. But when I saw the plate completed and knew it was going on the new 440 Super Stinger I had to have one of my own. So I got my husband to buy the Stinger for me. I also got to go through the plant in Crosby, because my husbands grandparents were from Crosby, lived there all their lives. It was great to own a machine made right here in Central Minnesota. I lived in the Crosby-Ironton area for a time early in my marriage. I love the area and still visit there.

Tom     Phoenix, Arizona     2004-01-30
Hi, great website ! I found an 81 Sidewinder here a couple of years ago with 850 original miles. What a great running sled. Even though manufactured by Arctic Cat, the engine used in them is unique for Scorpion use only. Four of them were sold in Arizona. Keep Em Running !

Dean Peterson     Princeton MN     2004-01-30
Awesome web site, I grew up around Scorpions, as my dad was a dealer and we had at least 10 at home all the time. I remember going to Crosby to pick up parts, sleds, apparel, etc,all the time. I thought Scorpions were the best (still do).We had alot of fun on them, especially an orange 1967 1-banger, we would play king of the sled, and see who could stay on the longest with-out getting pushed off, as it didn''t go very fast and we could catch up by running real fast, what a blast.

Eric E     Brainerd, Mn     2004-01-29
Great Web site. It''s so fun to look at all the old pictures and TV commercials. I think Scorpian should make a come back or at least build some new and improved replicas for sale to the public. Maybe sounds crazy but I think it would go. Great job and I am proud of the accomplishments you''ve made. Sincerely, Eric E.

Paul Kegel     Minneapolis MN     2004-01-29
Just read the article in the Mpls Tribune. My uncle and aunt ran a Scorpion dealership in Park Falls WI and I rode Scorpion sleds for years. (Had a 1969 Mark II 300 if I recall.) Great memories. Wish I had that sled now!

Tom LeMay     Chaska MN     2004-01-29
Great web site! Brought back many many memories. Former employee of Scorpion from 10/70-7/75. Was the manufacturing engineer that developed the automated assembly line, the test booth, assembled the first production pararail. Really enjoyed working for Scorpion and especially Harvey Paulson.

John Lindsay     Mason City, IA     2004-01-29
I grass drag raced the Scorpions in the 70''s for a dealership here in North Iowa. We never lost in the grass! We had three drivers and three sleds. The dealership always had them set up to win. Those were great times. Thanks for the web site, I listen to Garage Logic on KSTP on line and that is how I heard about the history and the site.

Derwin Alberts     Bloomington Mn     2004-01-28
I remember my family buying two scorpions in 1971 or 1972, I think they were 1969 models?, one electric start and one not. They were black with the red stripes. I believe they were 296? single bangers. I also remember being able to store things in the rear backrest. At the time they were a pretty hot machine!

Michael Papenhausen          2004-01-28
I am ASCOA member#1002 and enjoy collecting also. I got my first sled a (1964 9.5hp SKI DOO) in 1965. I had six different sleds before I graduated high school and countless sleds since. I still am fond of the old ones and search the back roads constantly. I saw your article in the Star. Very interresting.

Jon     Nashville, TN     2004-01-28
Grew up in northen MN, the RRV and was lucky enough to win a Scorpion 10hp sled in 1966, as a 3rd grader, at the RRV Winter Shows. It ran great until 1974 when the track gave out. It ended up in a shed on the farm. Fastest sled in the neighborhood for about 2 years. Anybody out there remember the Winnepeg to Mpls snowmobile race?

Carla Hofmann Tauzell     Forest Lake, MN     2004-01-28
What a fantastic website...My life in the 70''s was built around Scorpion snowmobiles.. My Dad was the builder of the Scorpion assembly plant and it''s expansions, and our house was never without a couple Scorpions in the garage. I''m sure my love of winter is because of all the fun my friends and I had on our Scorpions!! Great job, incredible pictures and what WONDERFUL memories of such great people.

Bruce K     Mt. Iron, MN     2004-01-28
Wonderful article in today''''s Minneapolis paper. Own a 69 and 71 Scorpion, both still in good shape and both still run. Best machine made back then. Look out Cat, Look out Ski Doo, the Big Red One is coming through!

Lyle Adams     Lamont Iowa     2004-01-28
Great Web Site! Brought back old memories. I bought my first Scorpon in 66 and have owned many to this day. I sold 62 Scorpions in 68 and met the Founders several times. I Raced a 71 440 Super Stinger and was the Alaska State Overall points Winner in the Open Class in 72. My Super was not the fastest machine, but it allways finished near the front! Loved those Scorps!

Mike Mertens     Wadena, Mn.     2004-01-28
There was a guy by the name of Chuck Larson (I beleive) lived north of Brainerd on the Johnson road. He had a snow
