Scorpion Snowmobile Manufacturer
Expanding
Story from Sno-Mobile Times
Trail-A-Sled, Inc., manufacturer of
Scorpion snowmobiles, has doubled in size the past year and is still
expanding. An $800,000 building program gave the firm a complex
covering 147,000 square feet, but it's crowded and additions to the
red-orange steel frame buildings are mushrooming at the former Inland
Steel Co. mining site in west Crosby.
Trail-A-Sled, incorporated in 1959 by
Crosby men, Glen Gutzman, Eugene and Richard Harrison, was purchased in
January of this year by Fuqua Industries, Inc. an Atlnata, Geogria based
firm, which reported sales of $224 million in 1968 from its various
enterprises.
Fuqua, which began as a clay products
business, has added industries in the fields of leisure time market,
transportation, shelter, agri-business, education and most recently,
hospital administration.
Some of the firm names operating under
Fuqua include Pacemaker boats, Yarbrough trailers, Ward campers,
McDonough lawn care equipment, Interstate motor freight, Trojan Seed
Company, and Trail-A-Sled.
Gutzman remains as president of
Trail-A-Sled in Crosby; Richard Harrison as vice president; Earl
Hamilton as general manager.
